How Polar Bears Swim
Polar bears
are
very good swimmers
. They can swim
at about six miles an hour
and up to sixty miles between ice floes. They paddle with
their very large front paws
, which are about one foot wide. Each front paw has small webs of skin between the toes, which helps the polar bears to swim.
Polar bears often swim ten to fourteen feet below the water’s surface.
A polar bear
can stay under water and hold its breath
for more than two minutes
.
